How frustrating is it for all of us when it comes to playing the insurance game of “Will they or won’t they cover it” Here is a letter that was given to me by one of my clients recently that they sent out to their patient base after getting accused by several of their patients that a certain insurance company by the letters of DD of California stated to the patient that the doctor was charging too much, should be in a PPO status to save their patient’s money and that they, the patient should find another provider within the PPO listing and they would be glad to give them a list if they did not have one. Yes, a lawyer is looking into this as we speak!

The Dental Insurance “4 D” Game

Dear Patient,

Isn’t Dental Insurance (really a rebate) a nice benefit to have?

Unfortunately, did you know that their yearly “maximums” are still at the 1959 level of reimbursement? Were you aware that most insurance only pay6 out a maximum of $1,000 to $1,500 as they did back in the early 1960’s?

We need you help! Will you help us? Have you heard about the insurance game called “The 4 D’s” that many insurance carriers like to play?

  • Deny Coverage!
  • Delay Coverage!
  • Down Grade Payment for your coverage!
  • Destroy your claim!

Did you know that insurance companies make a PROFIT keeping as much of the payment as possible? When they pay a claim, they lose money! Who likes to lose money? When they don’t pay, they make a profit daily as they get to keep their money in their bank and draw interest. When they down-grade a claim, they are keeping the difference, making them more money. Of course, they would never actually destroy a claim intentionally, would they? They just state that they “never received” it.

They are in the Insurance business; we are into YOUR dental health care. Which do you prefer taking care of your needs?

Our wish for our patient, like yourself, is that the insurance companies would pay for everything that is contracted in the contract that they themselves wrote for you and your employer without playing a game, but they do not, do they? We understand their game, and we do not like it for our patients. We want our patients to know that we will do everything in our power NOT to be held prisoner by any insurance company in regards to your dental health care, is that what you want as well?

We ask you for your help and understanding when it comes to the Dental Insurance “4D” game. When they “Deny, Delay, Down-Grade and Destroy”, please do not put the blame all on our office? We ask that you give us a chance to show you who are really to blame if you are looking to “blame” someone. We wish to be your partner in this wicked game of “Deny, Delay, Down-Grade and Destroy”, will you let us?
